Saitoh's personality is fairly easy to understand - he doesn't typically hide himself behind a lot of
facades and masks. Though he does first pretend to be a polite medicine salesman, it's only an
act - and his true nature is revealed very quickly.
Saitoh has a tendancy to be ruthless, and he follows the codes of the samurai with accuracy and
honor. He lives by that motto of his during his every day life. Cold and calculating, he has
a high intelligence, he shows up unexpectedly a lot, and he doesn't seem to care what others
think of him. The only times he uses his "polite" act are with inferior people he needs to use to
achieve his means.
However, despite all this, Saitoh does show some indications that he cares about those around him;
he doesn't hurt Kaoru or Yahiko when he shows up to enlist Kenshin to fight against Shishio, and he
gives Aoshi a map of Shishio's fortress ensuring Kenshin, Sanosuke and Aoshi escape. He also rescues
Eiji and adopts him.
